Time goes by so fast! Don't Walk By.
Sure, websites like timehop.com and happyrambles.com throw bits of your memories back at you, but nothing replaces a good ol’ blog post :) Yesterday I had a lovely time walking around the east chinatown area (you know, the full length of Catherine Street all the way to the water with the beautiful view of the two bridges that is seldom walked by people in a rush) looking for homeless people...

My common app essay from 2008
I just reread this (so awkwardly written and with a subject against all odds) and realized it could double as a kind of testimony :P Goodness gracious, what was I thinking? Thank you God :) I’m sitting in my dad’s office right now and there’s a corrugated cardboard box on the shelf labeled, with my dad’s scraggly black sharpie pen, “trash - to be destroyed”....

T -16 Days
I can’t believe I have a little over 2 weeks left in Paris, I’m in this tragic (and blessed) state where I’m longing for just a little more time, but eager to return home, and then to New York to see all my friends again :) Paris in December is truly a sight, with lights everywhere and markets abound. I’ll post photos on FB soon! May God bless you during this finals season,...

George Simmel on 19th century city life
The same factors which have thus coalesced into the exactness and minute precision of the form of life have coalesced into a structure of the highest impersonality; on the other hand, they have promoted a highly personal subjectivity. There is perhaps no psychic phenomenon which has been so unconditionally reserved to the metropolis as has the blasé attitude. The blasé attitude results first from...

Vincent-isms
I saw that people were posting quotes by Leesh, Charen, and Isabelle, so I figured, why not? I’ve never laughed so much in a weekend. “I’m such a failure. I only know 4 languages. I need to know 7 to be competent in the world.” *peering out the hotel window at the beach at 7am* “Why are there people there already? We’re LATE.” *sunrise photographing*...

I should've learned some Italian other than just...
My week in Italy from fall break - description of cities and thoughts that come to mind. Overall, prices were much cheaper than Paris (as is everywhere else, haha)! Rome - Historical! Rome was my favorite city in Italy (Though the Amalfi area is a close second!) What can I recall? It was rather dusty :P with ruins everywhere. I remember walking around and passing ruins randomly every several...

Not the usual inspiration
I find the popular sayings “live as if it’s your last day” or “live as if you’re dying” coming up frequently recently, probably correlated with the death of Steve Jobs, natural disasters, and the general instability of life. I find that my usual response to this rather self-centered, sounding something like: go, follow your dreams! or go, do what you’ve...

See those ducks? Adorable. Never eating Foie Gras. That was crazy. My friend Dakota who is studying abroad in Amsterdam came to visit and we went to the flea market (marches aux puces), which reminded me of China and Ghana, Champs Elysees & L’arc de triomphe, Sacre Coeur church in Montmartre area (best view ever, will upload ASAP), and then a boat tour on the Seine river and then the...

follow this guy :) it’ll be worth it! co-suffering: Harry Potter. It was nice. It was nostalgic. It pulled from that worn shelf those moments when I was laying on bed with a light shining beside me at some godforsaken hour. It reminded me of the hours I spent rereading the page before last attempting to stall the end of each book. But what struck…

Why do I need to pray?
My grandma calls me regularly - I talk to her more than any of my other family members, it’s kind of weird. When we talk, it’s both inspiring and amusing. Inspiring because she calls with the sole intention to pray with me (and update me on her life, slightly) the Lord’s prayer in Chinese. Today, she asked me to pray for her, for her to have peace inside despite the agitation in...
